Weekly Newsletter March 1, 2019 Class Information:
Academics: Math: Many classes are working in Topic 11, which involves multiplying and dividing fractions. iLit: (Integrated Literacy) – Our current unit is iLit Unit 6. The essential question is: “How can people overcome challenges?” Reading: We are reading fictional stories, including an excerpt from The Call of the Wild about survival in the wild, and a drama version of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. This ties in to our work with Julie of the Wolves, which also is excerpted in this unit. We are working on the third and final part of Julie, which we should finish reading before Spring Break. Writing: Students will write narratives journal entries related to an ecosystem, similar to Julie’s trying to survive alone on the tundra. Science: Students will study gravity and the sun and how Earth’s movements around the sun affect us. Social Studies: Students will study the growing tensions between the colonists and Britain in the run-up to the Revolutionary War.
