Weekly Newsletter Aug. 18, 2017 Class Communication: We have a Web site. Please visit: http://www.otefraneyfabulous.weebly.com. The Weekly newsletter will be posted on Fridays on the Web site. (Today, I am sending home a paper copy, but in the future, it will just be sent electronically in School Messenger and posted on the Web site.) Daily homework will be posted on the Web site, as well. We have a Twitter account. Please follow otefraney5th. Important Dates: Aug. 21 – Solar Eclipse viewing event – OTE has eclipse safety glasses for all students to wear to safely view the near total solar eclipse Monday afternoon. We will watch a video about safe viewing, we will practice using our glasses to look up safely, and each classroom will have two teachers to help keep students following directions. Family members may join us, but if you come, you must bring your own glasses, because we do not have extra pairs. Fifth grade will eat at a different time that day, so students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch, but if they wish to purchase a school lunch, that is okay, too. If your child will not be attending school that day, please let the office know about the absence. Aug. 24 – Back to School Night – 6 p.m. – All families begin in the gym. There is a PTO parent mixer afterwards at Talk of the Town. Opportunities: Band – Fifth graders learned about band today in a visit to OTMS led by new band director Mr. Gervais (pronounced like Jer-vay). OTE Morning News Show – An application went home today for students interested in participating on the OTE Morning News Show. Please return by Aug. 25 if interested. Chorus - Fifth graders are invited to join the Cougar Chorus, if they would like. A blue informational sheet came home from Mrs. Stroud, the vocal music director. Please return by Sept. 7 if interested. Parent signatures: Assignment notebook: 5th-grade families are asked to sign their student’s assignment notebook (in their binder) EVERY DAY. All homework is listed in the notebook. Checkbook: 5th-grade families also are asked to sign their student’s green “checkbook” on the highlighted line AT THE END OF EACH WEEK. Padlet: If your student has not yet had a chance to add to our class Padlet about what students did this summer, please do so over the weekend, if possible. Here is the address: https://padlet.com/lfraney/uv7fzitx7mr4 Snacks: Please help your student remember to bring a healthy snack every day.
